Imagine being part of a community that does more than just connect you with like-minded individuals. Picture gaining clarity in your tech journey, finding your next startup co-founder or business partner and experiencing collective growth that goes beyond individual skills. That's the power of Akure Tech Hub’s communities
Akure Tech hub currently has over 1000 community members spread across 9 active communities; Creatives, Data, Business, Blockchain, Agritech, Techies, Virtual Reality, Mechatrics and Hernovate.
Over the weekend, we met with one of our community members, Oluwapelumi, to understand how leading the Mechatrics community has impacted his career growth.
My name is Faboade Oluwapelumi, I am into all things management; program management, project management and product management. Currently, I lead Akure Tech Hub’s Mechatrics community. I love reading, ideation, breaking things down to figure out how they work and rebuilding them. I am also a Christain and a preacher of the gospel.
Ever since finishing secondary school, it’s always been my desire to become a well-rounded tech expert, someone who could bridge the gap between hardware and software. Unfortunately, I struggled to find a community that nurtured this combined interest.
Everything changed when I discovered the Akure Tech Hub’s Mechatrics community. It was the missing piece I'd been searching for. Not only did I connect with like-minded individuals who shared my passion for hardware, but, more importantly, I also found a supportive group of people that opened my eyes to the world of software development, an area I hadn't explored much before. Through their guidance and support, I began to develop my software skills alongside my existing hardware expertise. This journey not only expanded my technical skill-set but also honed my leadership abilities.
Joining the Mechatronics community has been incredibly rewarding. It's opened doors to exciting projects, both local and international ones that I wouldn't have had access to on my own. Collaborating with talented community members has been instrumental in this process. By combining our expertise, we've tackled meaningful projects and delivered exceptional results.
It was when we organized one of our most impactful events which was an all “Hands-on Trek” meetup which was preceded by a boot camp that focused on fundamental electronics and actuators. From what I’ve seen around, there’re not so many communities that provide a space for hardware enthusiasts to network, brainstorm ideas, and share their knowledge.
Witnessing everyone apply their newly found skills from the boot camp to the practical sessions during the meetup was truly inspiring. It perfectly exemplified the power of community learning and collaborative growth.
My aim for the Mechatronics community is to become a space where ideation thrives and solutions are birthed to local and international problems. We want to be a global talent pool for companies and startups looking for talents to build solutions to challenges in the tech ecosystem. Problems that will make a real difference in our local communities and in the world at large.
Pelumi's story is a testament to the power of the Mechatrics community at Akure Tech Hub where hardware enthusiasts and software engineers come together to create truly inspiring solutions to challenges within the tech ecosystem.
